Some rules are meant to be broken
The rule that head buds or head phones are not allowed in class is one of those rules we will suspend for now because we are going to do a lot more listening of texts in class in the remaining days of this Learning Cycle. Please everyone, bring your headphones to class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and be prepared to listen to a tape segment of either a literary selection and or current events and then answer questions on what you have just heard. We're doing this to prepare you for the listening exam that will be on your English finals next month.
You can only have them out and wearing them when you have been told to do so by me and only on Tuesday and Wednesday of the week. Otherwise they are not allowed in class. If you have any questions, please ask them in class. God willing, see you then!

Activity Two of the Project
We're baaack! It's been a long year and teachers have felt it just as much as you the students have. In my case, the fatigue has contributed to loss of memory as well as the few black hairs I still have in my head. Sorry for the confusion about which web blog to go to for your assignments, but I think we're going to be here at Abdulkarim's World for the rest of the year, although I will post everything here over at Speaking English with Abdul Karim as well.
Here's the next part of your project assignment. You will find attached here five job advertisements. On each of them you have to find the job title, job responsibility, job requirements and job location and send that to me as a Word attachment. That's it! In some cases some of the information I'm looking for is not provided and you should state that it is not available. I will send you via email a chart that you should use to input the information from the advertisements to send to me. This part of the project must be turned in by the end of the fourth period on Tuesday. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you gentlemen
I really liked the passion and fervor students in both G10-06 & 10-13 put into preparing for and participating in the intra-class spelling bee, so I thought I'd highlight a few of the pictures taken along with pictures of the winners of the contest. The winners are the ones with the biggest smiles, but I think all of the students in these two sections were winners on this day and I thank them all for their spirit of competition and sportsmanship. I am honored to have them as students in my class.

Welcome Back!
Hello everybody!! I hope everyone had a rest filled weekend. As mentioned before in class last week, this week's installment of Sherlock Holmes will be due on Wednesday at 7:30, as usual. Please make sure to read the text and answer the questions at the end of the excerpt. G10-06 has the story A Case of Identity which is an intriguing suspense story with a strange ending and G10-13 has The Red Headed League which is a cops and robbers story to beat all cops and robbers mysteries. If you have any questions about these tasks, don't hesitate to ask during class between now and Wednesday morning. Happy reading!

There has been a change in plans!!
There's been a change in plans. Sorry about the confusion guys but there will NOT be a quiz tomorrow as originally planned. Instead it will be on Sunday at the 5th period of G10-06 and G10-13's quiz will be on the 6th period. It will be designed for 45 minutes so you will have enough time to complete it. Now for the bad news; you have homework that's due tomorrow, Thursday. Below is the file which you should download, complete and return to my in-box by 7:30 Thursday morning! The good news is it's all grammar review and some vocabulary for a total of 15 questions and it shouldn't take you very long to do. Of course if there are any words you don't understand you can use your online dictionaries to help you with the grammar portion of the assignment. No excuses for work not turned in on time. If you can't send it to me via email, then come to G13 and transfer via private networking, but you must do that BEFORE 7:30am. No Exceptions! Until then, have a good one!

Sherlock Holmes and The Red Headed League
The purpose for having the Sherlock Holmes stories is to expose you to a source of reading that will not only entertain but provide rich vocabulary, correct grammar and the consistently correct application of the language. Even if you are not able to understand all of the words you read, and you surely won't, you can still get an idea of the story and a sense of the action. The neat thing about your laptops is it has all the tools you need to understand the story, from a good dictionary to a translator available in google, that you can turn to for those hard to understand words and phrases, so remember to keep up with the stories as they are posted, and never hesitate to ask questions about the meaning or understanding of anything you read. This next assignment's five questions are due on Thursday. Enjoy!

G10-06! Heads Up!
This is the next excerpt of the Holmes' story A Case of Identity. In keeping with our routine it is only 1.5 pages long and has 5 questions at the end that you must answer and turn in by Thursday at 7:30a.m. Don't forget you are having a quiz on unit 9 on Thursday as well so plan your study time around those two tasks for English. The link for the Holmes story is below.
